KL Deemed to be University (KLEF) has been honoured with the First Runner-Up Award in the prestigious “Best Application & Uses of Renewable Energy” category at the 10th CII National Energy Efficiency Circle Competition 2026, held on 2–3 July 2026 at the India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.

The competition witnessed participation from 142 organizations with more than 350 delegates from across the country. The national recognition was conferred by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in recognition of KLEF’s exemplary implementation of renewable energy solutions and energy-efficient campus management practices.

The award was received on behalf of the University by Mr. D. Seshi Reddy, Associate Dean, Planning & Development, and Dr. K. J. Brahma Chari, Associate Dean, Planning & Development. The award ceremony was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Shri P. Shyam Sunder, Director, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India; Mr. Abhishek Gupta, Head – International Appliances, Rooftop Solar & PE&A, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), New Delhi; and Shri Vivek Thakur, Executive Chairperson, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Haryana.

KLEF received this prestigious recognition for developing one of India’s leading sustainable university campuses through the large-scale deployment of renewable energy, adoption of high-efficiency solar technologies, and implementation of smart energy management systems. The University has established an installed renewable energy capacity of 3,854.81 kWp, generating 5.90 million kWh of clean electricity during 2025–26, which met 50.9% of the campus’s total electricity requirement.

The University’s renewable energy ecosystem comprises rooftop solar power plants, elevated solar installations, hybrid solar-wind systems, battery-backed renewable infrastructure, and the continuous adoption of next-generation, high-efficiency solar panels.

KLEF’s sustainability journey has witnessed remarkable progress over the past four years. Renewable energy generation increased from 1.99 million kWh in 2022–23 to 5.90 million kWh in 2025–26, representing an impressive 196% growth. Through intelligent energy monitoring, advanced conservation measures, and more than 3,500 smart energy meters, the University has simultaneously reduced its Energy Performance Index (EPI) by 34%. During 2025–26 alone, these initiatives helped avoid an estimated 4,189 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, while cumulative avoided emissions over the past four years exceeded 11,785 tonnes.

Commenting on the achievement, Er. Koneru Satyanarayana, Chancellor, KL Deemed to be University, said:

“Sustainability is not merely an initiative at KLEF; it is an integral part of our institutional vision. This national recognition from CII reflects our long-term commitment to building net-zero carbon campuses through renewable energy, energy-efficient infrastructure, and responsible resource management. As an educational institution, we believe it is our responsibility to demonstrate sustainable practices while inspiring future generations to build a cleaner, greener, and more resilient world.”

This recognition further strengthens KLEF’s position as a national leader in sustainable campus development. Supported by its ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System certification, green building initiatives, and continuous investment in renewable energy infrastructure, the University continues to set benchmarks in environmental stewardship while integrating sustainability into education, research, and institutional operations.
