Kolkata, May 20, 2026: In a move aimed at strengthening global career pathways for hospitality students, NIPS Institute of Hotel and Hospitality Management recently hosted a delegation of hospitality industry representatives from New Zealand at its Kolkata campus. The delegation included leading hospitality employers, members of the Vira International team from London, and their Auckland-based associates.

The visit focused on creating overseas internship and placement opportunities for students aspiring to build international careers in the hospitality industry. The engagement featured recruitment drives, interaction sessions, career orientations, skill assessments, and personal interviews, allowing students to directly connect with global industry representatives.

Students from departments including Culinary Arts, Food & Beverage Service, Front Office Operations, Housekeeping, and hybrid hospitality roles participated in the evaluation process. Assessments were conducted on parameters such as technical knowledge, communication skills, operational readiness, professionalism, and service standards required for international hospitality placements.

The initiative reflects the growing transformation of hospitality education into a global career-oriented discipline. Over the years, hospitality graduates have increasingly found employment opportunities not only in hotels but also across aviation, cruise lines, tourism, luxury retail, customer experience management, international events, and corporate service sectors worldwide.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vivek Pathak said, “Hospitality education today is no longer limited to local borders. Over the past three decades, the industry has evolved from a traditional hotel-focused profession into a globally connected career ecosystem spanning aviation, cruise lines, tourism, luxury services, and international hospitality. At NIPS, our focus remains on preparing students not only academically but also professionally and personally so that they can confidently compete on global platforms.”

As part of the practical assessment process, culinary students demonstrated food presentation, creativity, teamwork, and technical execution under the guidance of Executive Chef Marc. Students from service and operations departments were evaluated on grooming, guest interaction, confidence, communication abilities, and overall professionalism.

Highlighting the aspirations of modern hospitality students, Dr. Pathak further added that students today seek international exposure, early financial independence, and global career opportunities, making hospitality education one of the strongest pathways to overseas employment.

The New Zealand internship program offers selected students structured industry exposure through a Student and Trainee Work Visa route. Opportunities are available in Culinary Arts, Food & Beverage Service, Front Office, and Housekeeping. Students selected for the program are expected to receive a minimum wage of NZD 23.15 per hour while working approximately 40 to 50 hours per week. The visa process for the program is entirely online.

Members of the visiting delegation reportedly appreciated the students’ discipline, communication skills, confidence, practical knowledge, and professional grooming standards, reflecting the increasing international demand for skilled Indian hospitality professionals.

With over three decades of experience and campuses across Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, and Shillong, NIPS Hospitality Group continues to focus on industry-oriented education, international collaborations, employability enhancement, and global hospitality training.
