Blockbuster Historical Epic ‘Raja Shivaji’ Continues Box Office Triumph After Maharashtra Day Release

Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company’s Raja Shivaji has emerged as a cinematic force since its grand worldwide release on May 1, 2026, coinciding with Maharashtra Day. As the historical epic continues its remarkable run at the box office, Riteish Vilasrao Deshmukh has credited the film’s overwhelming success to deep audience connection and organic word-of-mouth.

Riteish Deshmukh Highlights Emotional Audience Response Across Generations

Reflecting on the film’s extraordinary public reception, Riteish shared how Raja Shivaji has become more than just a theatrical experience—it has turned into a family-driven cultural event.

“When I see people taking their families, making groups, taking their grandparents, there are a lot of people who have never seen a film, they are taking their grandchildren. New parents, a one-year-old child, and a two-year-old child feel that the first film of their life should be Raja Shivaji, especially the film on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” Riteish said.

He emphasized how audiences are documenting and sharing their emotional journeys online, creating what he described as the purest form of cinematic validation.

‘Organic Promotion’ Signals True Audience Acceptance, Says Riteish

Social media has been flooded with celebratory videos, theatre reactions, and heartfelt reviews from viewers, turning Raja Shivaji into a viral phenomenon. Riteish called this audience-led wave of support the ultimate achievement for filmmakers.

“I think this is the moment when the audience accepts a film. That feeling is very good for the makers because when the audience accepts a film, they themselves start promoting it. Nothing better than that for filmmakers like us,” he added.

‘Children Should Watch This Film’: Riteish on Why ‘Raja Shivaji’ Is More Than Entertainment

Speaking about the film’s educational and cultural significance, Riteish stressed that Raja Shivaji offers younger generations a deeper understanding of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life beyond textbook narratives.

“I think children should watch the film because we are limited to a few pages of history. I believe that when a story is presented to you on a large screen, they will know that there are a lot of things that are not shown in the history books.”

Record-Breaking Box Office Performance Marks a Milestone for Marathi Cinema

Raja Shivaji has delivered historic numbers, earning ₹37 crore during its opening weekend and surpassing ₹53.30 crore within its first week—setting a new benchmark for Marathi cinema while resonating strongly with audiences across India and globally.

Powerhouse Cast Brings Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Legacy to Life

Led by Riteish Deshmukh both on-screen and behind the scenes, the film features an impressive ensemble from Hindi and Marathi cinema, including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Boman Irani, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amol Gupte, and Genelia Deshmukh.

A Grand Tribute to India’s History, Scale, and Spirit

Presented by Jio Studios and produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh under Mumbai Film Company, Raja Shivaji stands as a large-scale tribute to the life, courage, and enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj—celebrating India’s history with soul, spectacle, and cinematic grandeur.
