New York: Actress and Human Rights Ambassador Sheena Chohan delivered a compelling address at the United Nations during the annual United for Human Rights Conference, calling for constitutional awareness and human rights education to become an essential part of every Indian student’s learning journey.

Appearing through a special video presentation displayed on two giant screens at the UN, Chohan emphasized that knowledge of fundamental rights empowers citizens and strengthens democracy. Her speech highlighted the importance of making constitutional literacy a practical component of India’s education system.

During the event, Sheena Chohan was honoured with the Human Rights Hero Award in recognition of her efforts to spread awareness about human rights and equality to more than 120 million people worldwide.

Bollywood Celebrities Support Human Rights Awareness

The presentation featured messages from some of Bollywood’s most prominent personalities, including Sonakshi Sinha, Sonu Sood, Raveena Tandon, Imtiaz Ali, Nandita Das, Sanjana Sanghi, Parvathy, Anushka Sen, Karan Tacker, Adinath Kothare, Ruchi Narain, Saket Chaudhary, and Shonali Bose. Each highlighted the importance of understanding constitutional rights and promoting equality through education.

Their collective support reinforced the message that awareness of human rights is not only a legal necessity but also a foundation for building an informed and inclusive society.

Sheena Chohan Highlights the Power of Constitutional Knowledge

Addressing delegates at the United Nations, Sheena referred to the recent example of Rhiya Ahir, stating that awareness of constitutional rights can empower ordinary citizens to stand up against injustice.

She stressed that both the Indian Constitution and the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights provide citizens with essential protections and encouraged people to study these documents not merely to memorize them, but to understand and apply them in everyday life.

According to Chohan, constitutional awareness should become a lifelong skill that enables citizens to participate responsibly in democracy.

Sonakshi Sinha: Education is the Foundation of Equality

In her recorded message, actress Sonakshi Sinha described education as the strongest tool for creating equal opportunities.

She emphasized that the Right to Education empowers every child to dream, question, and build a better future regardless of their background. She also praised Indian students for demonstrating resilience and commitment toward protecting educational values.

Raveena Tandon Calls for Constitutional Literacy in Schools

Veteran actress Raveena Tandon advocated introducing constitutional education at an early age.

She said that while children study civics and history, they should also receive practical lessons about their fundamental rights and civic responsibilities. According to her, basic constitutional rights should become a mandatory part of school education.

Call to Strengthen India’s New Education Policy

Reiterating her vision, Sheena Chohan urged policymakers to implement the spirit of India’s New Education Policy by making constitutional literacy and human rights awareness compulsory in schools.

She argued that educating students about equality, justice, and fundamental rights would empower future generations to make informed decisions and contribute positively to society.

Human Rights Message Reaches a Global Audience

By taking India’s constitutional values to the United Nations and receiving international recognition for her human rights advocacy, Sheena Chohan delivered a strong message that education remains the most effective tool for safeguarding democracy, equality, and justice.

Supported by leading voices from Bollywood, her address reinforced that understanding one’s rights is the first step toward creating a more aware, responsible, and empowered society.
